Limited winter hours at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium

Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium officials announced that declining sales tax revenues, which fund about half of their $10.8 million annual operating budget, will require the zoo to be closed on tuesdays and Wednesdays in January and February 2009.

Those days, according to records, have the least amount of attendance.

Zoo officials have said they're doing everything they can to cut costs while maintaining a good experience for visitors and a high standard of care for the animals.
