The Tacoma City Council has joined Seattle in officially condemning the state of Arizona for its controversial immigration law.
In a 5-to-3 vote on Tuesday, the council approved the symbolic measure opposing Arizona's recent crackdown on illegal immigration. Council member David Boe abstained from the vote.
Council members first discussed the resolution last week, but did not take a final vote until this week due to the absence of Tacoma Mayor Marilyn Strickland.
Strickland, as well as measure co-sponsors Lauren Walker and Ryan Mello voted in favor of the measure. Deputy Mayor Jake Fay and council member Victoria Woodards also voted for the measure.
