Wintergrass, a mid-winter Bluegrass festival, takes place in downtown Tacoma, WA., February 19th through the 22nd at the Hotel Murano 1320 Broadway Plaza, Hotel Murano used to be the Sheraton. The Hotel Murano has several stages with shows also going on down the block at the 1st Baptist Church (my favorite venue) and for the 1st time in a long time the Rialto theater.
Wintergrass is in it’s 15th year and is the only Bluegrass festival in the State of Washington that has this caliber of talent. If you love Acoustic music then you are going to love Wintergrass. Not only does Wintergrass offer traditional Bluegrass music but other forms of Acoustic music are offered also.
There is a dance held at midnight on both Friday and Saturday night.
If you are the type who likes to jam you are going to find plenty of kindred souls as the whole hotel is taken over by pickers. There’s picking going on everywhere, in the lobby, the halls, I have even seen jamming going on in the elevators.
